"This review has been a long time coming. I can just simply say that as a parent, not only do I find this book helpful for my son but for me as well. When we take the time together to read and talk about the concepts and ideas presented here we grow together. To me there isn't anything more valuable than that. I can recommend Mad to Glad to anyone who works with, interacts with, or is just involved in a child's life. Positive techniques to deal with negative emotions. A true find. " ... Mindfulness Lessons to Practice at HomeMad to Glad was written for children between the ages of 3-7. The book includes mindfulness lessons to help children cope with changing emotions. It teaches children the following mindfulness lessons:
|Mad to Glad Characters|
- Energy Transfer: Using physical movement to change negative thoughts to a positive attitude of the mind
- Visualizations: Using a child's imagination to achieve goals
- Affirmations: Using positive phrases to build a child's confidence
- Focused Breathing: Using the breath to become aware of the present moment
Practice these lessons with children at both happy and sad moments. With daily practice, children will remember how to implement their inner mindfulness.
How to get your child excited about chilling out...When reading Mad to Glad aloud, encourage children to act out the instructions associated to each emotion. Read the stories often, and practice daily.
Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment in a non-judgemental way. This mindful awareness stops our brains from pondering the "I should haves" of yesterday and worrying about the "What ifs?" of tomorrow.
In my experience with teaching Mindfulness to children, I realized emotions, both positive and negative, require awareness. I wrote this short story to help children become aware of common reactions to everyday situations. This book helps children recognize their emotions while they are experiencing the emotion. With guidance and practice, this internal awareness enables the child to create space between the challenging experience that their emotional and physical reaction.
My mission is to help children recognize that anger, frustration, sadness, and loneliness are common emotions, and it is natural to feel them every now and then. This book contains simple exercises inspired by my own Mindfulness practice, to help children increase their coping abilities. your child will learn to transfer their energy from fear and anger into positive thoughts and actions that serve their social and emotional growth.

As a librarian in Elementary School, I can honestly say we have never had a book that was so valuable to our teachers, while being fun for the kids to read. Teachers in our school are using this book to help children understand their emotions and value their feelings. The author has even agreed to do a reading for our K through 2 students and we are so excited! ~Danielle Walsh, School Librarian & Board of Education Member
A lovely review on Bookworm for Kids!
"This book is my children's favorite "going to bed" book. It truly connects to them like no other book. I believe it is the simple language, that is also designed to very intentionally help children understand that they can control their lives, mindfully. This simple, but deliberate way, helps them connect their problems to simple solutions, which instantly makes them very excited and empowered. Once they understand they can take charge of their emotions, they start feeling self-control, kindness and understanding to themselves and others. Even I use some of the simple tools to help myself take charge of my emotions, and I am a grown up :)" ~Biliana Coleman, Mom & Owner Bilimama Photography
"This book is truly a gem! As a Stress Management and Mindfulness Coach, books such as this are hard to find. Sharing these skills with very young children is a powerful way to ensure that they will grow up more aware of the role they play in understanding what it means to live a balanced, and emotionally healthy life. The 21st century is complicated, fast-paced and sometimes overwhelming, and this book is a valuable tool in helping children get in touch with the softer, slower and sweeter side of their world. The book is written in such a way that children really enjoy it, each time it is read to them, over and over again. I bought quite a few copies and I give them out as a gift to my clients that have children or grandchildren. Love it" ... Amazon Prime review by Judy Banks
